The 8100/80 was the fastest Power Mac when Apple introduced the line in March 1994, and the only model to ship from the factory with a 256 KB level 2 cache installed.
Built into the Quadra 800 case, the 8100 contains three NuBus slots and a PDS. Like the other first-generation Power Macs, the 8100 uses RAM for video (up to 615 KB, depending on resolution and bit-depth). It also has a separate PDS card with VRAM, making it very easy to work with two monitors.
Sabrina è un PowerMac 8100/100 particolarmente importante per me. E' un Mac trovatello, abbandonato sotto al cassonetto. Recuperato, ripulito e rimesso in piena operatività, attualmente fa girare un efficiente Mac OS 8.6 (il miglior Classic insieme a 8.1, 7.6 e 7.1). Il suo lavoro è grafica e fotoritocco con Photoshop 5 e impaginazione con Quark Xpress 4.1.
Nel 2004 è stato upgradato con una scheda G3 di Newer Technology con processore PowerPC 750 funzionante a 214 MHz. Aggiunge anche una cache di 512 KByte. E' un raro acceleratore per piattafore Nubus trovato su Ebay che ha messo il turbo alla già buona velocità di questo Mac.
